How to get the most out of your telehealth appointments

With telehealth becoming more and more enmeshed in the experience of NDIS participants, it’s important to acknowledge that telehealth can be a whole other ballgame.

Here at Bright Plan Management we have put together a comprehensive checklist to help you prepare for a telehealth appointment and help you get the most out of it!

Find out what options are available

Check in with your provider to see what types of telehealth appointments they can provide. If they offer both video conferencing and phone calls, you should choose whichever one is most comfortable and convenient for you.

Check the process

Will the provider call you? Will you call the provider? Do you just need to get online at a certain time?

Ironing out these details beforehand makes for a smooth telehealth experience.

Confirm what happens if the call is late

If an in-person appointment is running late, you often have other people around you who can let you know what’s going on, but with telehealth appointments it can feel very isolating and confusing when a call doesn’t come through when scheduled!

Check in with your provider beforehand to ask what to do expect if a support is running late to a telehealth appointment!

Bring a support person

Just like a face-to-face appointment, feel free to invite a support person to your telehealth appointment if that will be helpful for you.

Write things down

During the appointment, have you or your support person jot down important notes and dates so you don’t forget them.

As telehealth becomes a more prominent part of health care in Australia, it’s a great idea to prepare for your telehealth appointments and then reflect on your experience. Is there anything that you would change going into your next telehealth meeting?
