What is community?


Community refers to the people living and working around you and often refers to those who share similar interests and characteristics. You may be involved with your local community who live in your area or your community could be people who have the same hobbies as you - or it could be both!

Interacting with your community provides you with varying levels of human connection. Whether you’re shopping, attending the movies, heading out for a walk or eating in a local cafe, you’ll have the opportunity to develop your conversation and social skills.

How do I get involved in my community?


There are so many ways you can get involved in your community:

  • Catch public transport: it’s a great way to feel connected to your community and maybe even eat

  • Volunteer - find a local charity and donate some hours of your time

  • Shop local - you’ll meet and support people who live in your community

  • Go to the footy (or any sporting event) - being part of a crowd feels so good! Especially if your team wins

  • Join a social group - sign up to a local choir or gardening club
